ProRail, the company responsible for the infrastructure of the Dutch railway network, has put great efforts in the construction and maintenance of its firefighting systems in several industrial areas in the port of Rotterdam.
Together with our distributor DNM Industrial Firefighting, AVK was closely involved from the design phase. This resulted in appropriate product specifications for the hydrants and valves to be used, which meet the highest quality standards required for this industrial and corrosive environment.
For the new firefighting system along the railway, AVK supplied over 500 above-ground fire hydrants and gate valves. In close consultation with ProRail, AVK series 27 hydrants with UL/FM approvals were specified. These hydrants are suitable for use in a corrosive environment. In terms of execution, high-quality materials have been used. For example, the spindle and coupling are executed in stainless steel 318, the pins of Inconel 718. The coating is applied according to GSK guidelines and is provided with a UV-resistant topcoat. The pressure tests were executed according to UL/FM regulations at 35 bar.
Also, the specified AVK gate valves meet the high requirements set by ProRail. For this purpose, the spindle was made of aluminum bronze and the remaining parts were manufactured in stainless steel 316. The corrosion protection was executed in powder epoxy in accordance with GSK regulations. Our AVK rubber factory manufactured the state-of-the-art vulcanized wedge.
