Ball check valves
AVK offers ball check valves in DN 32-600 with standard NBR lined ball. For aggressive media or specific requirements to prevent noise and water hammer, polyurethane balls and balls with custom weight are available. The ball check valves can be installed both horizontally and vertically.
What is a ball check valve?
A ball check valve works by means of an internal ball that moves up and down as the pressure in the pipe increases or decreases. The seat is machined so that the ball fits perfectly. The conical chamber ensures that the ball is guided perfectly back into the seat to effectively block backflow.
If the pump capacity is not powerful enough to push the ball into the seat, it is possible to choose a ball with a lighter weight. If water hammer occurs after stopping the pump(s), a heavier ball is recommended.
Where are ball check valves used?
Ball check valves are designed to prevent backflow in piping systems, making them a critical component in many installations. Ball check valves are often installed at the pump outlet to protect the pump and are widely used in wastewater systems, as well as in irrigation networks and fire protection applications.
Ball check valves are ideal for use in pumping stations with limited personnel due to their minimal maintenance requirements. In the rare cases where the ball is causing noise due to insufficient pumping capacity or water hammer, adjusting the ball weight usually solves the problem..

AVK ball check valves are designed for minimal maintenance
AVK ball check valves are self-cleaning as the ball rotates during operation, eliminating the risk of impurities sticking to the surface. The standard ball is designed with a metal core covered with NBR rubber, where the hardness of the rubber is optimized to prevent the ball from sticking to the seat. For aggressive media and situations where specific ball weights are required to prevent noise and water hammer, polyurethane balls are available. The smooth, full bore supports unobstructed flow with minimal pressure loss and eliminates the risk of impurities on the ball, ensuring proper sealing..
Material options
AVK ball check valves are available in ductile iron with epoxy coating inside and outside with flanges in DN 50-600 and with BSP internal thread in DN 32-50. Furthermore, they are also available in stainless steel AISI 316 for installation in aggressive environment with flanges in DN80, 100 and 150 and BSP internal thread in DN32-80.
