Knife gate valve with actuator

Knife gate valves with linear actuators

When combining an AVK knife gate valve with a linear electric actuator from LINAK you get easy installation, minimum maintenance and low energy consumption.

The linear electrical actuator is robust and well proven and is already installed in several wastewater treatment plants and other industrial applications.

Energy efficient knife gate valves

The linear actuators are energy efficient compared to actuators using compressed air, and AVK knife gate valves with linear actuators have proven an energy efficient choice for processes at wastewater treatment plants where butterfly valves traditionally have been used. Knife gate valves, especially when designed with a V-port, also provide a more precise regulation which is optimal for e.g. aeration tanks.

No external assistance required

Our solution features very easy installation and adjustment that does not require assistance from an external technician:

  • Very compact, low weight and minimal space requirements
  • Self-locking with very precise positioning
  • Integrates with existing control, regulation and monitoring systems
  • In case of power failure, the valve can be opened and closed manually. A battery back-up is available as an optional extra

Control boxes and battery back-up:

  • WCU BASIC for analog control 4-20mA feed-back signals
  • WCU BUS for integrated BUS-communication module (PROFIBUS)
  • WCU UPS external battery back-up unit
  • Programming unit for programming and copying of parameter

The WCU BASIC or the WCU BUS are needed in order for the knife gate valve to work. The WCU UPS is optional and relevant if backup at power failures are crucial.

Energy consumption for linear actuators compared to conventional actuators

DN150 AVK valve with Linak linear actuator

  • Medium: air
  • Nominal effect (measured): 72 W (3A x 24V)
  • Time to open/close: 15 sec
  • Energy consumption - Linak actuator: 72 W x (15 s / 3600 s/h) = 0.3 Wh
  • Energy consumption - conventional actuator: 370 W x (41 s / 3600 s/h) = 4.2 Wh

A Linak actuator uses 93% less energy than a conventional actuator for a DN150 valve (1)

DN250 AVK valve with Linak linear actuator

  • Medium: liquid
  • Nominal effect (measured): 120 W (5A x 24V)
  • Time to open/close: 22 sec
  • Energy consumption - Linak actuator: 120 W x (22 s / 3600 s/h) = 0.73 Wh
  • Energy consumption - conventional actuator: 750 W x (68 s / 3600 s/h) = 14.2 Wh

A Linak actuator uses 95% less energy than a conventional actuator for a DN250 valve (1)
